标题:Characteristics and optimization patterns of spatial restructuring of rural communities in agricultural plain areas: a case study from the Jianghan plain, China

摘要:Examining spatial restructuring patterns in rural communities is essential for achieving sustainable rural development. This study constructed an integrated geographic-socio-cultural framework to analyze rural spatial systems, with the Jianghan Plain, a rapidly transforming agricultural area in central China, as the empirical study area. Methodologically, we integrated the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method to assess restructuring characteristics, the Obstacle Degree Model to identify limiting factors, and K-means clustering to classify restructuring patterns. Our analysis yielded three key findings: First, rural spatial restructuring levels improved consistently from 2010 to 2020, with regional disparities diminishing over the period. The study area transitioned from moderate spatial clustering toward high-level regional equilibrium. Second, although infrastructure reached adequate levels by 2015, living conditions emerged as the dominant constraint on restructuring progress. The spatial mismatch between regional provision of residential environments and community needs requires continuous optimization. Third, based on identified constraints and regional contexts, we developed a hierarchical zoning system comprising two primary and four secondary sub-districts, each assigned tailored optimization strategies. This study contributes novel perspectives on human-land interactions in plain agricultural regions and proposes region specific optimization pathways. These pathways provide actionable solutions for fostering sustainable development within the Jianghan Plain and comparable agricultural systems.
